Griddle FAQs

Everything you need to know about griddles.

What does โ€œpre-seasonedโ€ mean on a griddle?
Pre-seasoned means the griddle cooking surface has already been treated with cooking oil at the factory to help prepare the surface for cooking and protect the metal.
Can I cook on a pre-seasoned griddle right away?
Yes. A pre-seasoned griddle is designed to give you a ready-to-cook starting surface.
Do I need to season a pre-seasoned griddle before using it?
A pre-seasoned griddle does not require the same initial seasoning process as an unseasoned griddle.
Does a pre-seasoned griddle still need to be seasoned?
Pre-seasoning gives your griddle a head start, but seasoning and maintenance can continue as you cook. Over time, heat, cooking, cleaning and moisture can affect the seasoned surface. Applying a thin layer of cooking oil when needed helps maintain the surface and protect the metal.
Does a pre-seasoned griddle have a nonstick surface?
Pre-seasoning helps create a smooth, stick-resistant cooking surface, but it does not mean the griddle has a synthetic nonstick coating. With proper use and regular care, seasoning can build over time and improve the cooking surface. A well-maintained seasoned surface helps foods release more easily while also helping protect the metal from moisture and rust. Seasoning works by creating a polymerized layer of oil on the cooking surface, which contributes to both stick resistance and corrosion protection.
Why is food sticking to my griddle?
Food can stick for several reasons, including: *The griddle was not fully preheated. *The cooking surface needs additional seasoning. *Too little cooking oil was used. *Food was moved before it naturally released. *The surface was cleaned too aggressively and the seasoning was reduced. *A pre-seasoned griddle is designed to give you a prepared cooking surface, *but cooking temperature, oil and ongoing care still affect performance.
How often should I season my griddle?
There is no fixed seasoning schedule. Instead, pay attention to the cooking surface. If food starts sticking more than usual, the surface looks dry, or you notice areas where the seasoning has worn away, it may be time to apply a thin layer of oil and re-season.
Why is my pre-seasoned griddle sticky?
A sticky surface can be caused by excess oil that has not fully polymerized, residue from cooking, or improper seasoning. Avoid applying thick layers of oil. Seasoning works best with very thin, even layers rather than a heavy coating.
Why does my griddle surface change color?
Changes in color are normal as a griddle heats up and the seasoning develops. Over time, cooking and seasoning can create darker areas across the cooking surface. The appearance may change depending on heat, foods cooked and how the surface is maintained.
Is a pre-seasoned griddle better for beginners?
A pre-seasoned griddle can be easier for beginners because the cooking surface already has a seasoned starting layer. You don't have to begin by building the seasoning from bare metal. You can focus on learning how to preheat, cook, clean and maintain the griddle.
Why choose a pre-seasoned griddle?
A pre-seasoned griddle gives you a head start. Instead of starting with a bare cooking surface and building the initial seasoning yourself, you get a prepared surface that is ready for the next step: cooking. For everyday outdoor cooking, that means less setup and more time making breakfast, smash burgers, steak, fried rice and meals for family and friends.
